The Bantam Titans have wrapped up jamboree season and so far they are seeing great results.
The Titans are well into spring training and the bantams competed in a jamboree in Lacombe on  May 25. They followed it up with a jamboree style event in Brooks on June 1, and this past weekend was in Stettler.
Coach Thomas Laffin is liking what he is seeing from his team.
“They are going great, the guys are doing amazing. They are playing beyond anything we expected,” said Laffin.
He said he is liking how the team is responding on both sides of the ball.
“The defense has been dominating. We have been eating quarterbacks up,” said Laffin. “We had probably 25-3 sacs in Brooks, and in Lacombe, we had at least 15 sacs per team we played.”
Looking forward to the coming season, he is liking how the team is performing.
The defense is a powerful force right now, and on offense, we have moved towards a more passing offense,” said Laffin. “The receiving team and the quarterbacks have been amazing. Our average pass is about 10-15 yards.”
This is a rarity at the bantam level when most teams employ a running offense.
“We have a really good quarterback and a really good back up, and our receiving team, very rarely do they drop the ball. We have been moving the ball down the field well.”
He adds they have a good balance with some strong running backs for the ground game.
The Titans have a new look,  recently receiving new uniforms. B&T Polar Pork of Saskatchewan donated the new uniforms.

East Coulee School Museum receives grants

IMG 1013

The East Coulee School Museum was successful in a grant application to continue work on the historical resource.
The museum received a Community Facility Enhancement (CFEP) grant for $10,760 to replace two north facing windows. These two windows have rotted and are in need of replacement.
Executive director Barb Steeves explains because the museum is a historic resource, the windows have to be replaced to match the original construction to maintain historical integrity.  This includes using the same material and build style as it was originally constructed. Even if the glass breaks it has to be replaced with glass from the same time period.
They hope to complete work on the project this season.
The Museum was also the recipient of the Alberta Museum Association operational staffing grant. This is for $25,000 and goes toward staffing an executive director.
