Council recommended that Kirk McLean be reappointed to the Municipal Planning Commission for a three-year term. No member is eligible to serve on the MPC for more than two (2) consecutive terms, unless at the discretion of Council.

Staff Sergeant Robert Harms of the Drumheller RCMP Detachment presented the RCMP Q1 Report. He discussed the Crime Severity Index (CSI) In Drumheller this has a value of 116, down 18 per cent when compared with 2022. The overall CSI in Alberta is 103. He noted Drumheller’s CSI may be higher because of the detachment’s concerted effort of tackling drug enforcement.

Council passed all three readings of Bylaw #24.23, The Remuneration Task Force Bylaw. As per policy “Council shall appoint an independent Task Force composed of Drumheller residents to review this Policy and report back to Council with recommendations. The appointment of the Task Force and the Task Force report shall be completed in the third year of Council’s term

Council passed the first Reading of Bylaw #24.24 – Advertising Bylaw and Policy DP-C-03 – Circulation and Advertisement Standards and set a public hearing date for September 23, 2024, to discuss.

Council approved the cancellation of the 2024 Municipal Tax levied against Roll No. 04029906 (Drumheller Housing Administration) in the amount of $14,526.74. This is as per an agreement signed in 2009. Council has cancelled municipal taxation for the purposes of social housing in previous years and the DHA would in return, contribute to the reserve funds for the Sandstone Manor.

That Council approved the award of the Bridge #11 replacement project to Sure-Seal Contracting for the amount of $1,317,785.00, excluding GST. The existing bridge is 90 years old and has far exceeded its life cycle. Documentation from various inspections has indicated the replacement requirement.
