Drumheller man sentenced for drug charges

A Drumheller man has been given a nine-month conditional sentence order after pleading guilty to possession for the purposes of trafficking.     Neil Lanos appeared in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, May 13. He pleaded guilty to the drug charge.
The court heard how on February 19, 2011 Lanos was the subject of a traffic stop. He was arrested for driving while suspended. When police searched the vehicle, they uncovered a small amount of marijuana.
Police were able to obtain a search warrant for his home, and in a safe in the basement discovered 322 grams of marijuana in baggies, as well as a scale. Police say the street value for the seizure was between $6,500 and $13,000.
Lanos has a related record dating back to 2006.
Judge Gaschler agreed with a joint submission for a nine-month conditional sentence order. The first three months he is to remain under house arrest, and for the remainder of the sentence, Lanos is to abide by a curfew. He is also to complete 40 hours of community service.
