A number of Drumheller area 4H clubs are teaming up with Encana to auction off a beautiful, handmade 16 foot canoe in support of the foodbank.
“It’s looking very sharp,” said multiclub president Cathy Bell, “and looks even better in person.”
The canoe was one of this year’s projects for the Morrin 4H Multi Club, with four members and two leaders working the past seven months to complete it. Leader Gus Wahl had built a number of canoes in the past and directed the project with Less Bell, instructing members Raidon and Xander Kipling and Evan and Nathan Bell.
The canoe will hold about 24 cubic feet of groceries, and the 4H club is challenging people to fill the canoe as many times as possible for the foodbank, as it will be on display at IGA and the Drumheller Co-op as part of the promotion.
“It’s a good fit, and a good way to work together,” said Bell of their partnership with Encana, “the club is very small and filled with young members – it was one way we could pitch in.”
The Drumheller District 4H Multiclub includes Morrin, Delia, and Orkney.
