Another Drumheller student is taking advantage of opportunities offered by the Drumheller Rotary Club.
This week Nicole Campbell will be heading to Kelowna for the Adventures in Tourism program.
This five day tour of the Okanagan is presented by the Rotary Club of Kelowna, Ogopogo, and offers young people a behind the scenes look at the tourism industry.
“The objective of the program is to promote a greater level of understanding and appreciation for the value tourism represents to Canadian communities,” said Norm LeCavalier, chair of the Ogopogo club’s vocational services committee, and president of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce. “It also promotes insight into the vocational opportunities within the tourism industry and challenges participants’ notions of what tourism is and the role it plays in our communities.
This is the fourth year the program has been offered and students from across Canada and beyond, will be getting an up close look at what the entire region has to offer. They will be boarding with host families during their stay and be seeing everything from ski hills to beaches, golf courses to wineries.
When the students return to their home communities, they will share their experience with their local Rotary Club as well as others in the community.
The Adventures in Tourism is modeled after other Rotary programs such as Adventures in Citizenship in Ottawa and Adventures in Technology in Saskatoon.
Nicole will be participating in the program from Sunday, March 27 to Thursday, March 31.
