The figures are in, and this year’s Cuts 4 Cancer event has raised $25,000, which will stay in Drumheller to be used to purchase an expensive airflow bed for palliative care patients at the Drumheller Health Centre.
“They’re quite expensive, but they’re well worth it,” says Linda Ames, administrative secretary for the health centre. “This is really wonderful for them, they’ve done some really good work.”
The funds will go towards the $36,000 price tag on these beds, which use air flow to create a comfortable surface and a number of controls and features for patients in hospital.
Ames says sometimes it’s hard to budget for items like this, and when money like this comes along it makes life easier for the health centre.
“It’s great when a group of people who are well motivated come together and really make things happen. If we didn’t have this type of fundraising in the community, we wouldn’t have nearly the type of programs we offer here. Personally, I believe this is one of the best hospitals in Alberta. It’s a good place to be.”
"It wouldn’t be possible without the community behind us,” says Morse, adding she absolutely looks forward to next year’s event.
