Hockey celebration for fallen teammate

The Charmont Memorial game is set to go Saturday, February 12 at Drumheller Memorial Arena.

The Drumheller Mail announced in its December 8 edition the Encana Atom Raptors were planning a memorial hockey game to retire the jersey of teammate John Charmont, who tragically passed away in a hotel explosion in Mexico, and to unveil a third custom designed jersey in dedication to their teammate.
Calgary Radio Station CJ92 has joined the project supporting the custom jersey.
“This is much more than a hockey game, it’s a hockey celebration that coincides with the CBC’s Hockey Day in Canada as well as the unveiling of the Raptors' limited addition commemorative jerseys,” said one of the Atom Raptors coaches Paul Salvatore. “Of course, the focus of the day is our chance to pay tribute to Chris and John Charmont through the retirement of John’s #4 jersey and the official uncovering of a memorial shadow box to honour Chris, John and the Charmont family.”
Salvatore said the community is invited to the game at noon. There will be a special presentation to the Charmont family. Voice of the Dragons Jason Blanke will emcee the event. There will also be special guests from CJ92. Salvatore said there is a possibility of coverage on CBC’s Hockey Day in Canada celebration.
The Raptors will be taking to the ice versus the Indus Hurricanes.
Sports Room Source for Sports has designed a special edition t-shirt that will be available during the game.  Encana is also sponsoring a post game barbecue featuring Spolumbo’s Deli. All the proceeds from the game will be given to the Charmont Family Trust Fund.
