Drumheller 4-H Show and Sale Grand Champ named

The Drumheller and District 4-H Beef Show and Sale had a great turnout with 46 calves being displayed, awarded and then sold to the highest bidder.

The Show and Sale went on Monday, June 1 at the Delia Arena, and this year the event was hosted by the Carbon Ag Society and the Hesketh-Orkney 4-H Beef Club. Other clubs in attendance included the Delia Club and the Rumsey Rowley Club.
This year’s confirmation judge was Dennis Ericson, and the showmanship judge was Darren Paget. The grooming judge was Nick Best and the judging competition judge was Sandi Jones.
After awards were presented, and all had their fill of dinner, catered by Good N’ Plenty, they got down to the business with the sale.
Rosehill Auction Services expertly took care of the sale, and saw 46 head sell for an average of $1.61 per pound. This year’s Grand Champion was a 1,300 pound Angus, Maine cross raised by Jorden Ferguson of the Rumsey Rowley Beef Club. It fetched $3.10 per pound and was purchased by Armand Tessier of Drumheller Chrysler. The Drumheller Co-op sponsored the trophy.
The Reserve Champion was another Rumsey Rowley raised steer. Mitchel Hodge raised the 1,350-pound Maine, and it sold for $2.95 per pound. The buyer was Murray and Betty-Ann Moench of Hanna Motor Products. The trophy is sponsored by Riverside Packers
In the awards from the show, Justine Johnson of the Rumsey Rowley Club won senior grooming with her 1,315 pound Angus steer. The senior showmanship ribbon went to Tiffany Richmond with her 1,061-pound Limousin. The best rate of gain went to Bradley Nelson of the Rumsey Rowley Club with his 1,566-pound Angus steer. The junior grooming and junior showmanship trophies went to Samantha Richmond with her 1,310-pound Angus steer, making it a clean sweep for the Rumsey Rowley Beef Club.
