Discoloured water in Rosedale result of valve failure

Rosedale residents may have noticed unclear water in the morning hours of last week, as the Town of Drumheller installed UV equipment to the treatment plant.     The clarity issue on Tuesday, May 21 was the result of construction at the water treatment plant in Drumheller. While performing the installation, one of the steps resulted in the need to isolate a section of the main header which feeds Rosedale.
There was a valve failure which forced the shut down of additional valves. While shut, the velocity in the water treatment stirred up sediment in the distribution system resulting in unclear water.
“The clarity issue is a temporary issue and in no way affects the quality or the safety of the drinking water,” said Director of Infrastructure, Al Kendrick, also noting the town was continuing to flush the transmission line to reduce the colour in the water.
The installation of the UV equipment at the water treatment plant began in late
2008 and will be completed with in early June.
