Delia School has new leadership as it heads into the 2024-25 school year.
Mr. Blair Raugust has been appointed Principal of Delia School. Mr Ryan Duckworth who had been at Delia since 2018, has accepted the position of Vice Principal at J.C. Charyk.
Raugust is excited about the new school year.
“The best thing about the first day is seeing the excitement of the students ready to tackle a new school year. Everyone reuniting after two months away. The value of the relationships forged at small schools is unmatched,” he said.
They have brought on a new staff member and didn’t have to look far. Teddy Brinkman grew up in the Delia area and spent a year teaching Kindergarten at Delia after graduating from the University of Lethbridge. He also taught at Cessford and then Coalhurst.
“Teddy brings a wealth of talents to Delia School. He will be heading up our math department but also is musical and will be offering a rock band class as well. The community of Delia is thrilled to have Teddy back!,” said Raugust.
Raugust said the school is looking at some new programs including instrumental band, rock band, and German language and culture.
The rock band class comes from an authentic place as Brinkman for years has played guitar for the band Suit Jacket Society.
Raugust says the school has a steady enrollment.
“We had a couple of big grad classes in 2023 and 2024 which caused our numbers to dip but we are sitting around 145 students which is strong,” he said.
Back to school for Delia school is on August 28.
