Woman sentenced for drug possession

Courthouse

A woman was given a one-year probation order after police seized a significant amount of methamphetamine.
Leslie Michelle appeared in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, December 9. She pleaded guilty to simple possession of methamphetamine.
The court heard how on January 6, 2022, Drumheller RCMP were called to a car in the ditch near Munson. A lone female was in the car asleep.
EMS checked on her and she was given 24-hour prohibition and taken to holding. Police discovered methamphetamine in plain view in the console of the car and in a backpack. The total was 56 grams.
While it was a significant amount of drugs, the Crown said there was no indication of trafficking and the primary consideration in sentencing is rehabilitation.
Michelle was sentenced to a one-year probation order.
