A Calgary man facing charges stemming from a pedestrian hit and run in Trochu on Canada Day has had his case adjourned after a first appearance in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, August 19.
Lawyer Rabie Ahmed appeared on behalf of the accused, 31-year-old Christopher Ferguson of Calgary, to request an adjournment in order to receive disclosure on the matter.
On July 1 at about 2:26 p.m., Three Hills RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Elevator Road in the Town of Trochu involving a dirt bike and pedestrian.
The pedestrian was transported to hospital with serious injuries in relation to the accident; the driver of the dirt bike involved had fled the scene.
RCMP arrested Ferguson at a nearby residence and recovered a dirt bike from the garage of the residence which was alleged to have been involved in the collision.
Following analysis by the RCMP Auto Theft Unit, it was determined the dirt bike was stolen from Calgary.
Ferguson is facing charges of failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, operation while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, driving an off-highway vehicle on a highway without authorization, and driving an uninsured off-highway vehicle.
The Honourable Judge J. Schriar granted an adjournment until Friday, September 16 to allow counsel time to receive necessary disclosures.
