The first Friday of June is a tradition in The Salvation Army. On this day volunteers head out into the community bringing doughnuts to emergency responders, FCSS staff, and the Legion in appreciation of their service. This began during World War I, when two Salvation Army ladies began frying doughnuts in soldiers’ helmets to help boost morale. (l-r) Salvation Army Major Laura Burrell delivers some doughnuts to Comrades Gary Boucher and Deb Bolduc of the Legion with community and family services worker for the Salvation Army Amanda Courtenay.
