MLA Horner appointed to Treasury Board

20180427 Nate Horner TJH 0020

MLA for Drumheller-Stettler Nate Horner has been appointed to the Alberta Treasury Board.
It was a whirlwind for Horner. In early January, he was appointed and sworn in and immediately went into board budget meetings.
“It is definitely a promotion. It is the first time seeing from the private member’s side to the government side,” he said. “I was kind of surprised. There are only two MLAs that sit on the board. The rest are from in cabinet.”
The Treasury Board is responsible for budget planning, financial management, and economic analysis, as well as the administration of tax and revenue programs. It focuses on accountability, financial management, human resources, and communication leadership. It oversees the regulation of the Alberta liquor, gaming cannabis, financial, securities, insurance, and pension sectors.
“You deliberate on the funding of ministries and initiatives and help the Finance Minister to get to a budget,” he said.
Horner is the chair of the Southern Alberta Regional Caucus and his committee appointments include Private Bill and Private Members Bills, Alberta’s Economic Futures, and Selected Special Democratic Accountability Committee. He is also on the Student Transportation Taskforce.
“It is an honour to be sworn in, and it is more responsibility for sure,” said Horner.
