An eight-year-old girl showed her selflessness by turning a disappointing birthday into a gift to the community.
Skye Fabick was getting ready to celebrate her birthday, but because of COVID-19, it sadly couldn’t happen.
“Her birthday party was supposed to be on December 5, and it got cancelled because of the restrictions where we couldn’t have gatherings,” explained Skye’s mother Melanie. “When I told her we couldn’t have a party and would have to postpone it until the new year, she asked if we could do a bake sale instead.”
It was a simple request, but her mother was well suited for the task, she operates a home-based baking and cake decorating company. The plan was put in place, and the bake sale went online, with the proceeds to go to The Salvation Army.
Melanie expected a few family and friends would show their support by buying some Christmas goodies. What happened was inspirational as the bake sale went viral.
“I posted it on my Facebook page, and two days later, I had to take it down because we were at $1,000,” said Melanie. “That was about 32 boxes of treats.”
The final total was $1,400 gross, which made a donation to The Salvation Army of $1,100.
Fortunate for Melanie, she has an extra set of hands for the baking. She tells the Mail Skye is a proficient baker who does everything from measuring to mixing.
It took a couple of days to fulfill the order and sent sweets as far away as BC.
Generosity is nothing new to Skye. Last year she went on an “elf money’ spending spree and donated the toys to The Salvation Army.
