The St. Anthony’s Sabres JV boys basketball team has won third place in its league and are on their way to zones.
The team was in the playoffs last week. Shorthanded, they fell short in their semi-final.
“We had people who could not make it to games, I think if we had all our players for every game we probably would have won,” said coach Chris Curtis.
This put them in the third-place match on Thursday, February 27 against Beiseker on the road. The team played hard and came up with the victory.
“I am very happy. They played hard and gave it everything,” said Curtis. ‘It was a relatively rough game, and we had a couple of injuries, but they fought well and they won.”
Next up for the Sabres is Zone on March 13. Because they are playing at the Junior Varsity level, they are not able to bring players in Grade 12. Curtis is looking forward to the tournament. Zones are at St. Joseph’s Collegiate in Brooks.
