The Drumheller Kinsmen Club is celebrating the centennial of the service organization.
On February 18, at the Town of Drumheller Council meeting Mayor Heather Colberg signed a proclamation and the Town will fly the Kin Canada 100th Anniversary flag to proclaim February 20, 2020, as Kin Canada Day and February 16-22, 2020 as Kin Canada Week.
These activities will recognize the impact the local Kinsmen, club have made on the Town of Drumheller since they were established in 1928.
The local ceremony is part of a Canada-wide flag-raising celebration for the "all-Canadian" service organization's 100th anniversary. Throughout this week, Flags will be raised all across Canada, from the East coast of Newfoundland and Labrador to the West coast of Vancouver Island.
Club President Wes Chung notes that the local Drumheller Club has impacted Drumheller very significantly over the years and is pleased to be participating in this historic anniversary and to be able to unite in celebration with our fellow Kin and fellow Canadians from across the country.
The celebration will continue throughout the year with Kin across the country participating in National Day of KINdness, planting trees, supporting school milk programs, and engaging youth in the Kin 100 Community Challenge; all nods to different parts of the association's long history of giving back.
In Drumheller alone, the Kinsmen Club of Drumheller has been the driving force behind many local projects including parks, playgrounds, and recreational facilities. The Drumheller Kinsmen have hosted the free Canada Day Pancake Breakfast for 84 years. Recently, the Drumheller Kinsmen have supported the Festival of Lights, Titans Football, Scouting, 4-H, the Drumheller Music Festival, High School Scholarships, FCSS programs, Christmas Hampers and toys for the Salvation Army, and free movies for the kids at the Napier Theatre. The Kinsmen Club of Drumheller continues to demonstrate Kin Canada's motto of "Serving the Community's Greatest Need."
