Women’s hockey back on ice

The Drumheller women’s hockey team is back on the ice and already have four games under their belt.
The valley was without a team for the 2016 and 2017 season, but reassembled last season. This year they have about 20 players signed up. They range in ability level from post-secondary players to beginner athletes.
“We are competitive but not all are great hockey players!” laughs team member Angie Gill. “In other words, we like to play hard but our hands don’t always do what our brain wants.”
The team recently received a new set of jerseys sponsored by O’ Shea’s, however they are still looking for a team name.
Gill says typically they get about 7-10 skaters and a goalie out for games, and they could always use more players. Players of any experience level from age 16 and up are welcome to play. To learn more check out or message the Drumheller Women’s Hockey Facebook group.
“It’s great exercise and a great group of women,” said Gill.
Alison Ostergard is an avid player and she enjoys the camaraderie.
“I play for fitness, fun, and friendships,” said Ostergard.
