The Drumheller Fire Department celebrated its centennial at the Badlands Community Facility on Saturday, October 19. More than 200 people, including former firefighters and family, came out for the dinner and program.
Adolf Guterson perished in 1951 while fighting the Napier Theatre Fire. He was only 23 years of age. On behalf of the family, retired Edmonton firefighter Tim Guterson presented the Fire Department with Adolf’s helmet, to be displayed at the Drumheller fire hall. This was the helmet he was wearing that fateful day he was killed.
At the Drumheller Fire Department Centennial Celebration, Provincial Service Medals were presented to dedicated members of the department. Pictured are (l-r) Regional Technical advisor for the Office of the Fire Commission Dean Clark, Reg Gallagher who received his 12 year medal, Matt Bolin who received his 12 year medal, Keith Poole who received his 12 year medal, Peter Gruber who received his 20 year medal 30 year bar and 40 year bar, Rick Schinnour who received his 20 year medal and 30 year bar, Chief Bruce Wade who received his 40 year bar and MLA Nate Horner.
