New Staff Sergeant arriving in May

RCMP CREST COLOUR

A new Staff Sergeant has been appointed to the Drumheller Detachment of the RCMP.
Ed Bourque will be starting his new post in the first week of May. He is coming from Red Water where he was serving as sergeant. He is familiar with Drumheller.
“I have been here a few times, camping and checking out all the cool sites, and the dinosaurs. My kids always loved those growing up, so I am looking forward to it,” Bourque tells the Mail.
    He was born in Alberta.
“I have been very fortunate to serve my whole career in the Alberta area,” he said.
While he is coming into a new community, he feels the focus will be on crime reduction and prevention.
“Across the board throughout the RCMP’s priorities, and through the town’s end as well, the priority is obviously going to be crime reduction, youth and schools,” he said. “Basically those are going to be the main focus and community policing generally is going to be at the forefront. Anybody who needs help of any kind or working with the public to try to decrease crime is really important.”
The position of Staff Sergeant at the Drumheller Detachment has been vacant since Kevin Charles took on the role of  District Advisory NCO in April of last year. He served at the Drumheller Detachment for nine years. Corporal Gerald Sherk has been acting as detachment commander.
