The Town of Drumheller is set to begin its road work projects for the summer of 2008.
The projects are estimated to start within the next two weeks. While some projects are the responsibility of Alberta Transportation, both the Town and the province have agreed to bring projects together for the benefit of both parties.
“If you can get larger quantities in the tender,
historically you get better pricing,” said Director of Infastructure
Services Steve Huculak. “We have been doing that for the last several
years with Alberta Transportation. At the end of the project their
portion is funded back with the province one hundred per cent, it helps
them out and it helps us to make the town look good.”
Two of the projects Alberta Transportation will be paying for will be the work on Highway 9 and Highway 575.
While Huculak says there may be a bit of a
traffic slow down when work begins on the highway, he does not
anticipate any big problems.
“We’re confident with the traffic accommodation plans we have in place,” said Huculak.
The Town will also have the contractors doing miscellaneous work like side walk repair and some underground pipe work.
“The same contractor that is doing our streets
improvement program, has also been awarded the 2008 capital water main
replacement program,” said Huculak.
One project Alberta Transportation will be handling independently is work on the Gordon Taylor Bridge.
