A mechanical failure has led to the closure of the Drumheller Aquaplex outdoor pool.
Earlier this week the outdoor pool's main water circulation pump failed and is need of immediate replacement. Staff from the Town have worked tirelessly to resolve this issue, however despite those efforts the necessary replacement and repairs will not be able to be completed in a timely fashion. As a result, the Town will be shutting down the outdoor pool for the season.
The Town will be preparing the outdoor pool for winter and shifting focus to the opening of the newly modernized indoor pool still planned for November 1st 2017.
Aquaplex Supervisor Andrea Leavitt said "It's been a great outdoor pool season and we were lucky that we had such great weather. Our attendance and usership was much higher than we expected earlier in the year."
Town of Drumheller will continue to extend the length of Aquaplex memberships by the length of the closure. "We feel that it is important to make sure that our members are given fair value in recognition of the inconvenience that the closure of the indoor pool will cause regular users. We have always tried to minimize the impact on our users as we encourage an active and healthy lifestyle," says Mayor Terry Yemen.
The newly modernized Aquaplex will feature a gradual entry pool basin, new hot-tub and steam room in addition to fresh new floors and surfaces. These improvements will help to reduce maintenance costs in addition to improving the overall aquatics experience.
The Town will be releasing more details on the status of the indoor pool as things continue to progress.
