Before fall of 2017, Drumheller roadways will see three big improvements, all funded by the provincial government.
Mayor Terry Yemen said, “We have received verbal approval of some of the stuff we have asked for. We don’t have the official letter yet but we have been told by the bureaucrats that we will receive the funding for three of the projects.”
Two of the projects will be started in early 2017. One is a pavement overlay on Highway 10 from the Highway 9 intersection, by Boston Pizza, to 2nd St. W. by the Macs Convenience Store.
The second project to be started early this year is a paved turn off put in place by the Welcome to Drumheller sign between the bottom of the Highway 9 southhill and Extra Foods. This will be put in place to make it safer for those who stop to take pictures with the Drumheller sign.
Mayor Yemen said, “The roadside turn off will be to help facilitate the traffic that already stops there.”
According to Mayor Yemen, the third project will replace a culvert that is under the road on the east end of Drumheller’s industrial area. To avoid a detour during the Passion Play season, this replacement project will be started at the end of August or beginning of September.
“We are able to package these projects with the normal paving we do. This will give us a better deal from the contractor.” Mayor Yemen said, “Investment in the community is always a good thing.”
