Call for Christmas kettle volunteers

IMG 7142

The Salvation Army is still looking for Christmas kettle volunteers.
Community and Services Worker, Jenessa Mcauley said, “This is a great opportunity for youth groups to take on as a service event, for families to get out and give back during the season, or for people who are interested in spreading cheer to the community.”
There are kettles set up in Freson Bros., Extra Foods, Co-op, and Walmart. There is still a need for all shifts. The kettle drive kicks off Friday, November 25.  The biggest need is for the week of December 19-24. Mcauley said that the week before Christmas is always their busiest time.
The shifts are 11:00-1:15, 1:15-3:30, 3:30-5:30 and 5:30-7:30 each day. Days that volunteers are needed are week one: November 25 and 26; week two: December 2 and 3; week three: 8-10; week four: 14-17; and week five: 19-24. The Christmas Eve shift is from 10:00-12:00.
This is one of the most needy times of the year. Mcauley said this is an important time for the food bank ministry to campaign for the support needed to run their ongoing programs and services.
“We have seen a 26 per cent increase in the food bank use this year and we expect a similar increase for Christmas hampers.” Mcauley said, “The Salvation Army is always open to food donations. To donate food you can use any of the food donation boxes located at most grocery stores or you may drop donations off at The Salvation Army Church.”
