Almost two months into the school year and Golden Hills School Division is still looking for a grand opening date for Wheatland Crossing School.
The Mail reported in its August 24 edition that the school opening would be delayed. At the time, construction issues were due to wet weather. This set back completing the roofing and the exterior concrete work. They estimated the work would take about one month, depending on the weather. To date, the school is not open.
“We are meeting with the contractor coming up. We are working on a date with them before we can release anything,” said superintendent Bevan Daverne. “We want to make sure we have timelines that will not change.”
He says they are making progress. The paving company has been on site working on the parking lot, and the rest of the inside is moving along.
“Before we go back to the community with timelines, we want to make sure everyone is confident. We don’t want to go to them with a new timeline and then have that change again,” Daverne tells The Mail.
Currently, the students are being accommodated at Standard School.
