Nurses celebrated at centennial nursing display

Nurses form the backbone of the medical system – they are the ones who spend most face time with patients, manage patient pain and anxiety, comfort them and ensure their needs are met.

The nurses at the Drumheller Health Centre were honoured on Wednesday morning as part of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta brought their centennial celebration display to the hospital. Nursing artifacts were on display along with an interactive digital media centre which gave attendees a chance to hear  audio recordings from nurses of the past and to see obsolete equipment. Pictured is CARNA communications coordinator Aura Somarriba holding a Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp. instrument kit and nursing medals from WWII.

“It’s important to recognize how far nursing has come as a profession, and to recognize the work done by nurses in our community,” said Somarriba.

The display is currently on a 33 stop tour throughout Alberta.
