Police have made a possible arrest in relation to a string of vehicle break-ins and the theft of a 14 year olds’ motocross bike, Drumheller RCMP tell inSide Drumheller.
Late last week residents of east Drumheller around Riverside Drive reported a slew of vehicle break-ins on Wednesday and Thursday night, with the biggest being the theft of Cache Buchberger’s $8,000 2014 Husqavarna motocross bike from the back of a truck in their yard early Friday morning.
“Around 4 a.m. we heard the dogs barking and got up and looked into the backyard, but we didn’t really notice at the time that the bike was stolen from the back of our truck,” says mom Tina Buchberger.
“He’s extremely upset. Motocross is his passion, his first race was supposed to be this weekend and he won’t be able to race. I used my savings to buy this bike and we can’t really afford to replace it right now.”
The bike is still missing.
“It takes a special kind of person to steal a kid’s motorbike,” says Corporal Trent Sperlie.
Corporal Rod Gutherie says Drumheller RCMP think they made an arrest on Sunday in connection with the vehicle break-ins, and possibly in correlation with the theft of the bike, and believe the accused has committed similar crimes from here to as far as Red Deer.
Brandon Gaudry, 22, has been charged with possession of stolen property and possession of controlled substances.
Gaudry was released from custody but has since gone missing. A warrant is out for his arrest.
