On Monday Drumheller town council approved a supplier for a new pool cladding material to be installed at the Aquaplex.
The flooring will allow easier cleaning and maintenance of the pool basin, with cleaning of this new flooring estimated to save at least 10 days of pool closures a year. It will also provide a shallower entry into the pool.
The material is easier to clean in place and the liner does not require painting. The town hopes the ease of this new material will provide savings over the lifetime of the pool basin. The expected life of the new basin is 15-25 years.
The supplier contract was awarded to NCA Aquatics at $775,000 which was approved in the 2016 Capital Budget.
The material is being manufactured in Italy and expected to arrive in the first two weeks of September, with installation tenders to be put out as soon as a design proposal is provided by NCA Aquatics in a few weeks.
While the pool is closed for renovations, estimated at 2 months, the outdoor pool will remain open for use if installation begins early enough in the summer.
“We’re trying our best to keep the pool open as long as we can,” said Infrastructure Director Al Kendrick.
