It’s official. Drumheller will be the site of the 2016 55-Plus Games Festival event this fall.
The Mail reported in its February 24th edition, The Big County Senior Sports Society (BCSSS) made a bid for Drumheller to host the games. The festival events include some competitions that are not based solely on athletic ability, such as cards.
“It is very exciting to bring the games to Drumheller and area,” said Linda Traquair, vice president of BCSSS.
The event will go September 29 to October 2. They are looking at both staging the competition events as well as welcoming ceremonies and banquet to provide social time. The event could attract between 400 and 500 competitors, and has obvious benefits for the community.
“Hotels, campgrounds, caterers and restaurateurs could all benefit,” said Traquair. “We will also be looking at opportunities for residents and merchants to participate and contribute.”
