Mayor suggests letter campaign to Montreal Mayor

Mayor Terry Yemen is hoping the combined voices from the Alberta Urban Municipalities, Reeves, and all city Mayors will influence Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre to change his mindset on the Energy East pipeline project.
On January 27, Mayor Terry Yemen requested a form letter be prepared from the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) asking that all Mayors and Reeves in Alberta sign and forward.
The letter would outline the need for national cooperation and explain the importance of the proposed Energy East pipeline project to all Canadians. The pipeline would give the oil industry access to world energy markets and give a boost to our national economy.
This letter would then be forwarded to the Mayor of Montreal Denis Coderre.
Coderre is against the Energy East pipeline project and has publicly stated, “We are against it because it still represents significant environmental threats and too few economic benefits for greater Montreal.”
Mayor Terry Yemen said, “This  idea came up in a  discussion, there was some merit to it, and it’s  not confrontational, just an expression from Alberta that we should all work cooperatively  for the betterment of Canada.”
