Starland resident earns AAMD&C scholarship

    Meaghan Peters has been selected as the District Two recipient of the 2015 AAMDC (Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties) Scholarship.
    Meaghan and her family live in Starland County, and she is the first resident in the municipality to be awarded the AAMDC Scholarship.  The AAMDC Board was impressed with the tremendous combination of academic excellence, community involvement and exemplary character that Meaghan exemplified.
    Meaghan completed her High School in Drumheller at St. Anthony’s this past year.  Meaghan is a great student and received awards for the highest marks in chemistry, biology and English, and she also received an award from the Royal Tyrrell Museum for having the highest combined science marks.    
    She is the recipient of a community leadership award, and also received the Bosch family award for the student best emulating the characteristics of fellowship and citizenship.  Meaghan was also the Valedictorian of her graduating class at St. Anthony’s.
    Meaghan served on the Province of Alberta’s Education Minister’s Council in 2014 and 2015 working to provide input from youth in the development of education programs.  
    She served as the president of the student council and also the grad committee.  She also helped to coach / manage the senior boys basketball team.
    Meaghan received the scholarship cheque in the amount of $1,000 which will help her with education expenses.  Reeve Hoover presented the cheque on behalf of the Alberta Association of Municipal District and Counties (AAMDC).
