Drumheller’s own competing in National FireFit Championships

Two of Drumhellers’ top firefighters are on their way to the National Championship of the Scott Fire Fit Competition.
Duane Bolin and Merv Smith have been competing in the toughest two minutes in sport this summer.  On Wednesday, they boarded a plane to Kitchener, Ontario for the competition.
The competition takes place September 19 and 20. This is the pinnacle event of the year.
Bolin is competing in the open and qualified for the championship in the over 50 category by winning gold in a regional competition in Calgary earlier this year.
Smith also competed in Calgary and won silver. Because of this, he will be in competition Thursday and Friday (Wildcard Days) to earn a qualification.
The pair is also competing in the X3 Relay. This event adds a little more technical aspects than other events.  Most of the traditional course is used, however,  the clock begins with Competitor 1 securing their  Scott X3 Air Pak. After that, they complete the tower obstacle and the forcible entry simulator.  They move into the exchange area where Competitor 2 removes Competitor 1’s Air Pak, hands it off and has Competitor 1 install it into Competitor 2’s harness before they complete the course. The two already qualified for this event.
