Further to a meeting held between the Province and the Town of Drumheller on September 9, the following summarizes the main points of the discussion;
- The Province is committed to working with the Town of Drumheller on a
flood mitigation plan which will consider all options eligible for funding
under the Alberta Community Resilience Program, including buyout
provisions.
- The Province and the Town of Drumheller agreed that the design level for
flood mitigation will be to 1890 cubic meters per second, which is a 1:100
regulated flow.
- The Province recognizes that Drumheller's emergency response plan is
key to overall flood hazard area management and fits into the layered
approach identified in the province's Respecting Our Rivers guiding
document.
- The Province will consider all options eligible for funding under the Alberta
Community Resilience Program when finalizing the overall mitigation plan.
Mayor Yemen states "the meeting with the Province is a step in the right direction
and the Province has agreed to support the Town of Drumheller with public and
landowner engagement". The Province commended the Town of Drumheller for
all the work the Town has put into the development of a plan.
