Drumheller is about to get an official visit from royalty. The Watermelon Queen, Miss Emily Mae Brown will be the honoured guest at Watermelon Fest.
Freson Bros. grocery stores throughout province are celebrating Watermelon Fest, a family event that celebrates all things watermelon and includes a barbecue and watermelon eating contest. They will also have ingenious ways to use watermelons with recipes and entertaining tips.
In addition, the Queen will be making an appearance Saturday afternoon.
“I have been around agriculture since the age of six and have always tried to find ways to inspire others to be enthusiastic about the agriculture industry. I cannot wait to be at the Freson Bros. stores and interact with your customers,” said Emily Mae Brown.
The National Watermelon Queen is on a tour through Canada and the United States promoting the nutritional benefits and economic value of watermelon.
Freson Bros. is hosting Watermelon Fest this weekend. The queen will be appearing at their stores throughout the weekend. She will be in Brooks on Friday from 2-6 p.m.
She will then be in Drumheller Saturday, June 20 at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and then heads to Hanna on Sunday from 12-4 p.m.
