The Town of Drumheller's work toward a new Aquaplex waterslide is one step closer with the signing of the contract for the work.
Th e Town of Drumheller has finally inked a deal with the contractor for the Aquaplex’s new waterslide. Th e Town’s original plan was to have the waterslide installed by the end of September, 2014. Th e project has been delayed, due to the efforts by Town staff to ensure that
t a x p a y e r ’ s money wasn’t at risk in the event of project problems or delays.
“It was all about due diligence, because the contract that was presented wasn’t in the best interest of the Town of Drumheller," said Mayor Terry Yemen. He adds there were no checks or balances in the contract, so the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer didn’t feel comfortable going forward with the contract. “It took quite a bit of pushing and pulling on both sides,” said the Mayor, “but we have a contract in place now that protects the people of Drumheller and our investment.” Town Council set aside five-hundred-thousand dollars in the 2014 budget for work at the Aquaplex, including the waterslide purchase and installation.
