Dragons value volunteers

Susan Doyle works the stands during the Drumheller Dragons’ home games selling the 50/50 tickets. She enjoys visiting with all the fans and loves seeing kids at the games. Susan has volunteered with the Dragons for five years, and the only game she missed this season was the first exhibition game.

Volunteers are a cornerstone of the local Drumheller Dragons junior hockey club.
“They’re a huge part of our organization, and without them, we wouldn’t have the success and be able to do what we do,” said Kari-Ann Faubion, Executive Assistant to Hockey Operations.
Faubion puts the team’s volunteer count between forty and fifty people, and about a dozen of those have been with the team since day one in 2002.
She said Dragons’ volunteers are so reliable, there are no concerns about any work going undone.
“It’s fantastic having the consistency, because we never have to worry about things falling by the wayside. You know they’re there, you know they’re going to do the job, and you know you don’t have to worry about them.”
Susan Doyle of Munson has been a volunteer for the Dragons for five years.
Her enjoyment of hockey began as a child when her Grandpa Sharpe would take her and her sister to the Drumheller Miners games.
Her kids have always played hockey, and she was Secretary/Treasurer in Morrin Minor Hockey for about four years.
She said now that the kids are all grown up she still wants to be involved in hockey, and thought she could help out the Dragons while seeing the games.
Susan circulates through the stands selling the 50/50 Draw tickets at the Dragons’ home games.
“I enjoy visiting with everyone - all the other fans - who attend the games.”
“I love to see the kids at the games.”
She said it’s also a good way to get out and see people on a cold winter night.
Kari-Ann said she didn’t know if Susan had even missed a game this year - Susan missed only one.
“I made all the games this year except the first exhibition game. I was out camping.”
