Over a dozen employees working in and out of the Drumheller office have been let go by the company.
This latest move comes as a result of the restructuring of the energy company.
Employees were called to the Badlands Community Facility on Monday and informed of the layoffs. Employees will receive severance packages based on years of employment.
The terminations are effective immediately.
"This is a very difficult part of our transition as we work to make our business more streamline a and align our organizational structure with our new strategy, which means these job reductions are impacting every part of our company. We are not providing specific details of how these reductions are impacting any single area," said Doug McIntyre, a spokesperson for Encana.
"This restructuring and shift in strategic direction will make Encana a stronger company going forward. However, it is always tough to say goodbye to many talented and dedicated people who have contributed so much to our company. For those staff in Drumheller who are leaving us, we would like to extend our thanks for their hard work over the years. We are committed to treating everyone affected with fairness and respect as we work through this difficult part of our transition."
It is not known at this time if there are any more changes planned within the company.
