It’s that time of year where a mix of excitement and trepidation fill the minds of teachers and students as they head back to school.
Classes for students at St. Anthony’s School begin today Wednesday, August 29, and much is still new and exciting at the school.
While students have been in the schools’ new facility since last spring, work on the school has continued through the summer bringing everything up to snuff.
This includes the building construction lab. This year the school is able to offer students the option in the brand new high tech lab designed to introduce students to the industrial arts.
This is not all that is new. The Friends of St. Anthony’s have worked hard to bring a brand new playground to the school. This coming year students will be able to enjoy the apparatus, including an outdoor gym with exercise equipment for older students. Landscaping is receiving some finishing touches.
Principal Tim Gregorash said enrollment numbers appear to be consistent, but it will not be confirmed until classes are in session.
There will be some new faces in the faculty and Vicki Black will be back filling in a maternity leave of Sara Engler.
Parking and dismissal procedures will remain at the school for the time being. Due to parking constraints the school will continue to stagger its dismissal, with students who are bussing being released from class earlier than students who are walking or being picked up by parents. Gregorash said the system works to alleviate traffic congestion.
St. Anthony’s School and Christ the Redeemer School Division have moved on to a new Alberta Initiative for School Improvement (AISI) focus. This year the division is focusing on fostering literacy success for all. This is a three-year cycle.
