On August 7, members of the Drumheller and District 4-H Club, boarded a plane at the Calgary airport destined for Ontario.
They visited Oxford County, Ontario, for ten days which is the dairy capital of Canada.
“We were able to visit many dairy farms and learn the various techniques used in that industry,” said Janice Hoover, who is key leader for the Drumheller and District 4-H Club and also chaperoned the trip.
Besides learning about dairy farming, Hoover said they visited many attractions including an artisan cheese maker, Niagra Falls, where they rode on the Maid of the Mist, and they visited the theme park called Canada’s Wonderland.
“The kids were treated royally, and their host families treated them like they were their own,” said Hoover.
This was the second part of the 4-H member exchange. Club members from the Oxford County 4-H Club visited the Drumheller area from July 10 until July 20. Members from Oxford County stayed with host families during their visit, just as the Drumheller and District members did during theirs.
“My favourite part was meeting new people,” said Liam McDougald, 13, club reporter for the Drumheller and District 4-H Club.
“The kids made some lifelong friends, and I know it was hard to say goodbye,” said Hoover.
