4-H Club competing to bring Gord Bamford to town

The third annual “Why 4-H is Great,” contest is soon coming to a close to determine who will host a Gord Bamford concert in their town on November 15.

For the first time, the winning community is going to be determined by votes from the public. This year’s three finalists are the Drumheller and District 4-H Club, Colchester Crusaders, and the Lakedell Light Horse Club.

“Winning would mean hosting a concert by world class entertainer Gord Bamford locally and giving back to our communities. It would be great fun for all,” said Janice Hoover, key leader for the Drumheller and District 4-H Club.

The finalists have submitted a video to the “Why 4-H is Great,” Facebook page. The winner is determined by the most “likes,” for their video post.

Through ATB Financial, the winner will have the opportunity to use the concert as a fundraiser for their local 4-H Club.

“The financial benefit of winning the contest is a significant one. Funds would be used to celebrate 4-H Canada’s 100th birthday in 2013, give back to our community, for example to the  local food bank, the Carlie Bell Memorial Scholarship, and more,” said Hoover.

Previous contest winners raised more than $20,000 in total for their clubs.

Voting ends on August 31 and the winner will be announced live at the 2012 Summer Send Off Festival in Ponoka, during September long weekend.

To vote go to www.facebook.com and search “Why 4-H is Great Contest.”
