It will be madness downtown tomorrow. The streets will be filled with the rumbling of hundreds of motorcycles in the 2012 Motorcycle Madness.
This year, the event will be supporting Big Country Victim Services.
“This year we’re giving to Big Country Victim Services. It’s a great cause to support,” said Connie Tremblay, with the downtown committee.
“The whole event is done to have some fun, enjoy the biker lifestyle, attract bikers to the valley, and raise money for charity. We hope people come and support us, so we can give them as much support as we can. It’s a needed service in the valley,” said Terry Kuhl, who helped organize Motorcycle Madness
Last year, Motorcycle Madness raised roughly $2500 for the Drumheller and District Humane Society.
The action kick starts on Friday night with the Steak Ride and Dinner, which starts between 5 and 6 p.m. tonight at Yavis Family Restaurant.
Things pick up again tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. for the DARTS pancake breakfast and Poker Run registration. The Poker Run starts at 10:30 a.m. Participants must collect playing cards from various stops to make the best poker hand possible.
“This year, the poker run will take us to Rosebud, Rockyford, Carbon, Wayne, and then back into downtown Drumheller. The person with the best poker hand wins the prize,” said Kuhl. “The best poker hand is going to win half of the proceeds, the other half becomes part of the donation to the charity.”
After the riders get back from the Poker Run, it’s time for the bike games, burnout pit, and the show and shine, where the bikes are judged. There are four categories, American standard, metric, custom, and vintage. The top three in each category will get a cash prize.
“The bike games are always a huge hit. People, especially those who aren’t into biking, wonder how the bikes can do what they do,” said Kuhl.
To go along with the motorcycles, there have been more activities added for the whole family. This will be the second year of the Motorcycle Madness fashion show, and the first for a lacrosse demonstration and miniature golf.
“We’re able to reach the younger children and teens. We’re trying to bring it to families in the communities and make it fun for the entire community.”
The madness begins tonight for bikers, but everyone can come out tomorrow and enjoy a day of horsepower and fun.
