At the end of this school year, St. Anthony’s school will be saying goodbye to a familiar face. Bill Judge has planned to retire.
After putting in 28 years of service to teaching students, half a year taught at St. Michael’s school in Pincher Creek and the remaining years at St. Anthony ’s, Judge has decided to retire.
“He’s been a fixture here for 28 years, and the students, parents, and staff will all miss him very much,” said Tim Gregorash, Principal of St. Anthony’s school.
Judge obtained a history degree from the University of Calgary, but worked various jobs afterwards and never really did anything serious with his degree. He was already married with three kids when he decided to go back to the University of Lethbridge to get his Bachelor of Education.
“I went into teaching because I thought it would be a wonderful career for a family man,” said Judge.
Judge said that his whole career has been a highlight. He said the students have been a joy to teach all of these years, and his collegues have been great to work with.
“I don’t have a complaint in the world,” said Judge.
Judge started as a Grade 4 teacher at St. Anthony’s and will end his career the same.
Judge said the biggest challenge in these 28 years has always been to figure out each individual student’s needs and to work with them.
“I always tried to give them the best approach that would best facilitate their education,” said Judge.
Judge said he doesn’t have any particular plans for retirement, but will most likely spend time working around the house. He said he will probably substitue teach at St. Anthony’s once in awhile, and fill in when needed.
“It’s like a good friend moving away and we won’t get to see him everyday,” said Gregorash.
