Next evolution for Badlands Community Facility

The Badlands Community Facility has been an ongoing project since it opened its doors in March.

“Now we are getting ready for government funding and fundraisers and need to be 100 percent ready to take the next step,” said Guy Latour, Business Manager at the Badlands Community Facility.

What exactly is in store for the next step of the project is not set in stone.

“Right now a steering committee is being organized. Some members from the original one will remain but new ones will also join,” said Latour.

There has been much talk about the need for a second sheet of ice for the arena and possibly a new curling rink.

Latour also said an interest for an inside play facility has also been noticed, so that children can enjoy some recreation when the weather isn’t so nice.

However, nothing has been made official just yet.

“We need to assess the community’s needs,” said Paul Salvatore, Director of Community Services.

Salvatore said so far the facility has been a tremendous success since it opened its doors two months ago. He said this puts the facility in a position to move forward.

“We continue to do well and I can only see that helping to move forward with the next phase,” said Salvatore.
