Drumheller RCMP are investigating another act of vandalism, including the torching of a Golden Hills School Division van at the Drumheller Valley Secondary School.
At 7:45 p.m. on Sunday evening, Constable Doucette observed flames coming from a grey van parked on the east side of DVSS and called the Drumheller Fire Department which quickly put out the flames.
Investigation revealed a number of vehicles parked at the school had glass broken, and fresh blood was found on the ground.
“We presently have that as evidence. The school was contacted and asked to review their video (surveillance) at the school and check for any fresh cuts on arms and hands,” said Staff Sergeant Art Hopkins.
“If anyone sees anybody with these cuts on their hands or arms, we would at least have something to compare the blood to,” said Hopkins.
Hopkins adds they received information that a person at the Wal-Mart witnessed a person in dark clothing breaking the windows of the vehicles, but did not call the police.
“It’s the whole ‘I don’t want to get involved,’” said Hopkins. “…It was another case of lack of concern by people who could have witnessed something in regards to lack of respect of people’s property.”
“To see it happening and not do anything to stop it or report it, you are condoning it, perpetuating the problem. We have to get people to take ownership of their community, it is not just their property, it is the community on a whole.”
Hopkins said the investigation is still continuing. If anyone has information on this incident they can call the Drumheller RCMP at 403-823-7590, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
