It was an emotional moment at the Drumheller District 4-H Show and Sale, as the very first Carlie Bell Memorial Scholarship recipient was named.
Michelle Hoover from the Delia 4-H Club was awarded the scholarship.
Carlie was a 4-H member who was extremely active in her club (Morrin Multi) and the local district council (Drumheller District).
In 2011, she died of viral encephalitis after a work exchange/travel adventure to New Zealand and Australia.
She possessed great leadership qualities and promoted 4-H involvement at the club and district levels. In that spirit, the Carlie Bell Memorial Scholarship will promote the idea of working for the benefit of the group at different levels, especially the district level. The scholarship is meant for members, particularly senior members, who put in time, enthusiasm, effort, organizational ability, warmth, and friendliness to encourage fellow 4-H members to paricipate in club activities and learn new skills.

“I’m sure Carlie would be very happy to see you win this scholarship,” said Neil Bertsch, who presented the scholarship on behalf of the Bell family.
The rest of the night was full of smiles, as 4-H members were recognized for their hard work and efforts.

Drumheller Chrysler bought the grand champion steer from Madison Heck of the Delia 4-H Club. The steer sold for $5 per pound, weighing in at 1,349 pounds.
Mountain View Credit Union bought the reserve champion steer from Breanna Heck of the Delia 4-H Club, also for $5 per pound, weighing in at 1,322 pounds.
