Residents don rubber gloves for Valley Trash Challenge

This past Sunday was Earth Day and to commemorate the occasion, various groups and businesses took the time out of the day to go out and collect litter that has accumulated in the Valley over the past year.

Junior high students at Drumheller Valley Secondary School went out at 11 a.m. and spent nearly an hour cleaning up the school grounds.

“The students are part of the community at large,” said Curtis Lapierre, principal of DVSS. “We want to be good neighbours in the community of Riverside.”

Staff at the Royal Tyrrell Museum spent some time to clean up around the museum. Encana employees did their part to clean Drumheller as well.

To help dispose of the many bags of littler collected, a garbage dumpster was placed across the street from the Heartwood Inn. By the end of the day, the bin was filled.

Afterwards, the Heartwood Inn and Encana hosted a roundup barbecue to celebrate the efforts of residents who took the time to help make a difference in the cleanliness of Drumheller.
