Man charged following fatal bike accident

Okotoks RCMP have charged a 19-year-old man in relation to a highway collision that killed Drumheller resident Brad Wilson earlier this summer.      Wilson, 33, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of a motorcycle accident near Okotoks on July 3 at about 6:30 p.m.
Okotoks RCMP responded to a call of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 2 and 338 Avenue, which is just north of the Aldersyde overpass.
A 2002 Acura Type S sedan was attempting to cross Highway 2 eastbound.  Initial investigation shows that the driver came to a complete stop at the intersection, and allowed southbound traffic on Highway 2 to clear.  As the driver approached the meridian, he failed to notice a northbound motorcycle.
The motorcycle struck the side of the sedan, as the vehicle crossed the motorcycle’s path.
Neither the driver of the car nor his passenger was injured.
Charged with careless operation of a motor vehicle under the Alberta Traffic Safety Act is Ian Janzen, 19, of Calgary. He is slated to appear in provincial court on September 12 in Okotoks.
