Who Are You? Peter McDiarmid

Age: 58.
Occupation: Head chef, Dinosaur Trail Golf and Country Club.
What do you like most about your job? I love to cook, working with other people, and apprenticing new cooks.
How long have you been in Drum? My wife and I moved here March 4.
Where are you from? Born and raised in Calgary, but I spent most of my cooking career in Banff, Bow Valley, and Lake Louise.
What do you like most about Drum? Everybody is really, really friendly and the small town atmosphere.
Any travel destinations on your bucket list? We did three years of travelling, from Napa Valley, through wineries in Canada. One week we’d be in Tofino whale watching, the next in PEI. I’d like to go back to Las Vegas.
What three things would you take to a deserted island? A guitar, Joy of Cooking book, and my wife.
Any hobbies? Music. I’ve been playing all my life. One reason I wound up in a kitchen was my band broke up.
Do you collect anything? Guitars and Zip-O lighters, but I don’t smoke.
What would be your theme song? Penitentiary Blues.
What music do you play? Usually a lot of old country and blues.
What would you do with $1 million? Pay off my house and probably travel, but I’d still work.
One thing you could eat for the rest of your life: Singapore noodles. It’s got everything you need.
Any words of wisdom? Don’t eat vegetable shortening.
