Who are you? Becky Neuman

Age: 60.
Employer: I’m self employed. I teach private voice lessons and I’m the director of Kids Sing Music project.
What did you do before? I taught at the Drumheller Composite High School for 23 years, and before that in Stoney Plain. I taught mostly choral music and drama and then a lot of little odds and ends. My first teaching job was in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, teaching typing and book keeping.
How long have you been living near Drumheller? 25 years.
Where are you from originally? I grew up near Watford City, North Dakota. Then I moved to Saskatchewan in 1973.
What do you like most about the area? The chinooks in winter.
Anything you would change? The cold winters.
What are some things you do around the community? Besides my work, I am the president of Kaleidoscope Theatre and some work in my church.
I understand you’re playing Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music. I am!
What are some of your top travel destinations? One of my highlights was a trip to Norway last summer. I really want to cruise the Mediterranean and would love to go to South America.
If you could travel through time, where and when would you like to visit? I would like to go back 15 years ago and visit my dad.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you bring? That’s tough because I have three kids and a husband. We can lump them under family. Ok, so then my family, my cellphone, and some water.
What three words would you use to describe yourself? Oh my, that’s tough. I would say creative, good listener, and a bit of a scatterbrain.
If you could hang out with anyone, who would it be and what would you do? The person who I loved to hang out most with is my mom and we would go shopping together.
What are some of your favourite movies? My favourite type of movies are psychological thrillers. I really like Schindler’s List.
If you were making a movie about your life, who would you want to play the part of you? Cate Blanchett.
What are your favourite songs? Oh that’s really tough because of my musical background. I have such a wide spectrum of music I listen to, but I would have to say Beethovan’s Moonlight Sonata, Time to Say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli, and the title theme for Schindler’s List.
Any words of wisdom? I would have to say that when you search out your life, don’t follow the path to please someone else, follow the path that pleases you.
