The Atom Terrapins played their first game ever and walked off the field as the winner.
This season Drumheller Community Football introduced the Atom level of football. This is to introduce the game to the upcoming players and skill development.
On Friday, September 29 they invited Stettler for a game, and played well, winning 48-24.
“It came together really well. They did really good, I am really happy for them,” said Coach Brad Iverson. “It was the first year and the first game, and they came out and scored lots, and shut them down quite a bit.”
Iverson says there is no league at the Atom level, so they have arranged games with other schools with similar programs.
He explains they play a development style.
“You run six plays on offence and you run six plays on defense, and go back and forth. Coaches are on the field, so there is lots of instruction to make sure everybody is doing things correctly and safely,” he said.
This Friday the team is returning the favour and heading up to Stettler to complete the home and home series.
